Turn the Freak Out Down
And more advice on overthinking
You know how you put your work into something, and then literally while doing it, you think this isn't good enough?
Please donโt say yes, but if you are, take a sip โ๏ธ, and here's how we will stop doing that today (more on beverages below).
It's common to doubt our work and question its quality while we're in the process of creating or executing it. The whole I'm-not-good-at-this voice creeps in, stops us from taking action, and crushes our confidence.
Embrace Imperfection: The good ole "P" word. Perfection is an unrealistic expectation. Instead, focus on progress and improvement. ๐ I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe this email was good enough to be sent and kept writing draft after draft (I have several to share when I get the confidence). So first, thank yourself for showing up and embracing imperfection. Otherwise, neither one of us would be here.
Q: What are you waiting on sharing until it's perfect? Can you move forward today knowing you're doing your best with what you have?
Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate the small achievements along the way. I never do this. I just keep charging forward, giving them little thought and focusing on what needs to be done. But that's not helping. When you take a second and realize you've just accomplished something you set out to do, you reinforce that you can do it. You can be proud and say I got this! ๐ And then, yes, you can keep going. But you're going now with even more confidence because you've reminded yourself that you're taking the steps, and that's something to celebrate! ๐
Q: What can you pat yourself on the back for? What may you think is so small that you don't even realize that you did it?
Reframe Negative Thoughts: Challenge negative self-talk by consciously replacing it with more positive and empowering thoughts. When you think, "This isn't good enough," ๐ ๐ปโโ๏ธ reframe it as, "I'm making progress, and I'm doing my best." ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ I honestly don't have these thoughts anymore. I don't have space for them because I'm TOO BUSY FOCUSING ON MY LIFE that I don't have the time to even think about negative thoughts! Do you know how someone says they are too busy and forgot lunch? (yeah, I am not that person). But that's like the same thing. Become so busy with your life that you donโt think negative thoughts. ๐ฌ
Q: When was the last time you said something negative to yourself? Was it true? Do you honestly believe it? What phrase can you keep handy to tell that voice no thank you next time? OH! How about "No, thank you!"
By implementing these strategies and consciously believing in your work, you CAN break free from the cycle of self-doubt and overthinking. Remember, you are capable and talented and deserve recognition for your efforts. Keep pushing forward, and trust in the value you bring! ๐๐๐
Love you. Gotta go. Byeeeee!
xoxo
Speaking of beverages, the coffee graphic below got me thinking about how we have all the drinks surrounding us throughout the day. Hereโs my day in the life of beverages:
Morning:
Super Coffee has positive energy and none of the bad stuff. And because you are what you drink, and yes, youโre super.
Califia Farms OMG obsessed with their Toasted Coconut Almond Milk! I have it with my cereal (more on that next time), and they have THE BEST seasonal flavors without all the sugar. Just wait until their nog comes out youโre gonna hug me.
Afternoon:
Drink Poppi because it has those gut probiotics, tastes SO GOOD, and is sooooooooo cute.
Suja Lemon Love is one of those natural fresh juices but this one is low in sugar, so make sure you're reading the labels, gf! I cut mine with water or seltzer since it's sweet and extends the bottle.
Evening:
Fit Vine Wine and if you have yet to try lower-sugar wines, you're about to hug me again. Now you can enjoy wine and not all the calories, get the same great taste, and still go out for your morning run.
Owlโs Brew is a female business I met through the Tory Burch Foundation. When they couldn't find a great boozy beverage with only clean ingredients, they made one using fresh-brewed tea. So let's cheer women who embrace their ambition! ๐
Thirsty yet? Whatโs your choice of beverage right now?
