How to Show Up Authentically 🙋🏼‍♀️

Practical Steps to Start Today

Hi girlfriend. You know when you're on a flight, and the announcer gets on the mic and starts blabbering away about the safety rules? YAWN. You hear that stuff every time you fly, and you've tuned it out. But you know the funny ones that catch your ear and make you laugh? Yeah, those are the ones you listen to and appreciate.

This past weekend, I signed up to be the ski race announcer, and it’s a basic job. The standard is to say the kid’s name and race time. It can get pretty dull, so I added my personality. I was unsure how people would respond and was nervous that I was overstepping my role.

For 6 hours, I talked without any feedback. Did I flop? Was anyone even listening?

I was SHOCKED when I left my station to return to the clubhouse. Person after person, people I knew and didn’t know, women, men, and kids approached me with congratulations. They kept saying I did such a great job that they loved listening to my commentary and that I should be the announcer permanently. OMG. I was a hit. I felt such PRIDE. 🥰

Here's a list of ways to share your voice, with small steps leading up to more giant leaps. Okay, I know you! Before you look at this list, roll your eyes and say what the heck, I can’t do this!? Please read through it with an open mind. Take these as thought starters and see how they can apply to you and your vision. P.S. Baby Steps:

Be Present on Social: Share opinions, thoughts, or personal stories. It's a low-pressure way to connect with others and express yourself. You don't have to show your face, but you could!

Start Blogging: Create a blog to articulate your ideas, experiences, or expertise on topics that interest you. Let your inspirations guide you!! Start a newsletter! Get your voice out there and build a conversation!

Try Podcasting: Record short episodes discussing topics you're passionate about. This medium allows for a broad reach and engagement with listeners. Don't buy all the fancy equipment - try recording on your phone first. I will try a YouTube pod soon and let you know how it goes! And if you have one, please share your tips with me!

Join Public Speaking Groups: Participate in local clubs or organizations focused on public speaking or storytelling. These platforms offer a supportive environment to practice and improve your speaking skills. Start somewhere!! It'll build confidence!

Write Articles: Submit articles or opinion pieces to online platforms, local newspapers, or magazines. It's a great way to get your name out there as an expert in your field, and it's content you can reuse on your LinkedIn page. THINK BIG.

Moderate Steps:

Host Webinars or Online Workshops: Share your knowledge and expertise through online events on confidence-building or personal growth. This is an excellent space for you to create, and I'm doing more of this, so let me know if you want to collaborate!

Speak at Events: Volunteer to speak at local conferences, events, or schools to share your insights and experiences. People would LOVE to have you join them! They are always seeking new faces with authentic insights!

Collaborate with Others: Partner with like-minded individuals or groups to co-create content such as articles, podcasts, or workshops. Who do you turn to for your information? Who inspires you? Check your circle and ask around!

Be a Guest on Podcasts/Panels: Reach out to other content creators and ask to be a guest on their podcast or a panelist for an event they are hosting. ME! YOU! So many people would be great to speak with, so be proactive and ask!

Create Online Courses: Develop and offer online courses or tutorials related to your expertise! Don't keep your knowledge to yourself, especially when people want to learn from you! There is a course for everything out there - and believe me, this is a MASSIVE market! Don't feel overwhelmed by the noise - put your work out there and join the party!

Big Leaps:

Present at TED Talks/Conferences: Deliver a talk at well-known conferences or events within your field of interest. I'd start by recording yourself at home - practicing your message and sharing it online - get feedback and confidence!

Mentor/Coach Others: Use your experience and skills to become a mentor or coach in helping others achieve their goals and build confidence. CASE IN POINT. LOOK AT ME! I became a coach literally because someone saw the work I was doing and wanted it for themselves! The more you show how you're doing it, they will want to do it with you!

Start a Movement: Lead or initiate a movement focused on a cause or passion and inspire others. Confidence inspires confidence. If you believe in something, there are others out there who do as well. So join them and do something about it! TODAY!
