NYE Blues? πŸ’™

You're Not Alone πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Two days into the New Year, my girlfriend and I feel meh. How about you? I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but just because it's a "fresh start," beginning again doesn't always bring that instant rush of excitement. Before we beat ourselves up over this, let's go back and figure out why. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

What I've learned from NYE: You don't automatically feel motivated.

Understanding this, my guiding words for 2024 are RESPECT & PREPARATION. And here's a story about how I got here.

We're at my kid's ski race, and my daughter is just sending it in. I can tell she's not trying, and I got pissed. The word respect flew out of my mouth. You've worked so hard for this, and you're not respecting yourself enough to try. Respect the hours you've spent learning. Respect the coaches who trained you. Respect your team who's trying. Respect the sport that you've committed to.

For inspiration, we get home from the race and watch a video of Mikaela Shiffrin, the ski race GOAT. There's a scene where she's going up the chairlift, and her coach says these words: planning, preparation, and purpose. The intent for every day is to set yourself up for success tomorrow. And how daily improvements compound and drive results. Learning from the past and preparing for the future equals preparation today, which is the only thing you can control right now.

Let these guiding principles guide you through the year. "Respect" encourages self-awareness and honoring your uniqueness while taking pride in your work and the steps you took to get here and being more willing to use your knowledge to show up even more.

And "preparation" ensures that you are ready and poised for action. You will go even if you don't know where you're going or what you're doing. You will keep taking steps to navigate the year with grace, confidence, and authenticity.

While initial enthusiasm might take time, understand the importance of readiness. Not every beginning comes with an immediate surge of excitement. It's about honoring your pace and knowing that it might take time.

Keep gaining the tools and strategies to achieve your aspirations, which involve diligent groundwork, ensuring you can take confident steps toward your goals when the moment aligns. Respect your individuality in approaching goals, steering away from the expected norm, and embracing your unique path.

So while I was pissed at my daughter for not giving it her all, I have more of an understanding. I didn't mean to judge her - I want the best for her, just like I want for you. There are a million reasons why we act the way we do, and as much as I can encourage her to ski harder or inspire you to take action, it's up to us to create our motivation.

How are you feeling, gf? Does NYE help with a reset, or are you feeling overwhelmed? Please drop me a note, and let’s talk.

Love you. Gotta go. Bye. ✌🏻

xoxo
